2K Games has secured a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder action-packed title known as this innovative game.
Management Transition Follows Mixed Reception
Brinkman assumes the leadership position at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had shown the need for a distinct direction.
The president expressed that the team is now overhauling Project Ethos with a revised focus, aiming to better meet player expectations.
A Pattern of Key Hires
The news echoes a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from the Diablo team to work on the BioShock development group.
Here is the full message from Ismailer's announcement:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just finished your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I stated the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that collaboration to persist.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but made clear we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a more distinct brand.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You accepted the input to heart and overhauled Project ETHOS with a renewed direction - one that’s poised to achieve its promise to our players.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To advance the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After several months of talks, he comes aboard us on the specified date.
Ben’s guidance and expertise in the competitive gaming field is vast, having spent the last 15 years creating and managing some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in welcoming Ben soon. We are all excited to keep observing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the months to come.
The President

Project Ethos was unveiled in October 2024 together with a community playtest. Initially, the developers portrayed the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative step forward on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary explains. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, risks, and obstacles that change every round. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and pray your squad can earn top ranking? The choice is up to you."
Project Ethos lacks an official launch window or platforms, but fans can look forward to further news as development continues.
