Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then found numerous other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report preliminary tests suggest the liquid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for details.
An important political figure said the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
