The winter recruitment period proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible major moves. A number of high-profile stars find themselves connected to transfers out of their present teams. We examine some of the key figures who are poised to be on the move in January.

A. Semenyo

Although Ghana's failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations, which has left the forward in contention, it appears a significant transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a contract with a £65 million release clause applicable for a short period at the start of the month. Recent reports indicate the Premier League champions have emerged as his services. Other interested parties like Chelsea and Tottenham are said to have moved on to other options, leaving teams like Manchester United or Liverpool to attempt a late bid.

M. Guéhi

This England defender has excel for Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. As his contract due to expire in the summer, January is the London club's last chance to obtain a transfer fee for their captain. Numerous elite clubs, such as Manchester City and several European giants like Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich, reportedly be interested. However, a January departure is considered unlikely, especially given the coach's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

This Welsh winger has had starting opportunities limited at Spurs this term. Although finishing as the side's top scorer last season, he has begun only a small number of Premier League games. It is understood the North London outfit is willing to consider a transfer for the correct price, thought to be in the region of £40 million. The Cherries are currently at the front of the queue, with Crystal Palace, Aston Villa, and Brentford also credited with an interest.

Rúben Neves

The Portugal midfielder might be set for a return to the English top flight after a period in the Saudi Pro League. Still just 28, while his agreement expiring in the summer of 2026, he represents a possible bargain. Clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool are connected to the former Wolves man. Additionally, there have been rumours from Spain that he would be prepared to take a reduced salary for a switch to the Spanish giants.

Marc-André ter Stegen

The veteran Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça following new coach Flick. Having fallen out of favour and had an operation, a January exit seems highly likely. Aston Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that option now appears unlikely. Instead, interest from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be expressing interest in the keeper.

I. Toney

The prolific England centre-forward has kept scoring frequently in Saudi Arabia. Coming back to the Premier League could boost his fading hopes of being in the England squad. But, arranging a deal presents significant hurdles. Al-Ahli are reluctant to part with him, and his reported enormous salary render any move complicated. Tottenham, Manchester United, and Everton are all linked as admirers.

Conor Gallagher

The dynamic midfielder drew widespread interest in the summer but stayed at Atlético. With limited starting appearances in La Liga this term, he may be keen to find more minutes ahead of the World Cup. United have been heavily linked, and a move back to Selhurst Park, where he shone on a temporary deal, is also a possibility, although financial demands might prove a problem.

H. Elliott

Although excelling and winning player of the tournament at the Under-21 European Championship last summer, the talented player has found it tough for minutes during his loan spell at Aston Villa. Unai Emery has stated the loan move won't become permanent. Because of specific rules regarding representing two clubs in a campaign, a move back to Liverpool before next summer appears to be the only available solution.

Kenan Yildiz

The highly-rated Turkish forward is in excellent form for Juventus this term. With his existing deal nearing its end, many English clubs – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are monitoring the developments. Juventus are desperate to tie down the 20-year-old to a new long-term contract but face a battle to keep one of the continent's most promising prospects.

Kees Smit

The much-admired Netherlands teenage midfielder has drawn parallels to a Belgian superstar for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, he has become a regular in the AZ side. This teenager is heavily tipped to make a big-money transfer this month. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but are facing stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a signing priced at approximately twenty-two million pounds.
