David Raya Praises Squad Depth as Vital to Multiple Trophy Challenge
David Raya has declared that fierce rivalry for first-team spots is propelling Arsenal's exceptional performance, with the keeper believing that the squad's depth under Mikel Arteta is so incredible that they can compete for various titles throughout the campaign.
Stunning Wins Showcase Arsenal's Prowess
The North London club's recent comprehensive win over Atlético Madrid represented their six consecutive wins and 10th success in 12 matches. Having let in just three goals—the fewest at this point in the club's history—they have established a one-point lead at the top of the table and a flawless start in the European competition after three outings.
Squad Changes and Depth Key to Achievements
Raya has started in almost all matches, except for one Carabao Cup fixture, but Arteta has consistently rotated the team following significant summer investment on recruits. In response about competing for multiple trophies, Raya responded, "Absolutely, I think so. The depth is amazing. There are many players who can perform in two, three, or four positions."
For instance, against Atlético, Mikel Merino came on as a forward and is capable of playing as a No 8 or No 10. That versatility is available to the manager, and he's using it to our advantage. Things appear extremely promising, and that depth is crucial for us.
Rivalry Drives Standards
The Spain international continued, "That provides an additional edge in training and matches because if you're not at it, you can lose instantly. It creates intense rivalry in training and on the pitch, which is really, really important, and everyone is on board."
Defensive Solidity a Team Achievement
The team have conceded only one goal from regular play so far, and Raya has faced only one shot on target in their last three wins against Atlético, Fulham, and West Ham.
"Everyone contributes from the forwards to the goalkeeper," Raya explained. "Everyone is focused, no one wants to concede, and we aim to intercept the ball before it reaches the halfway line. If we intercept, it allows a fast break. It's crucial for the entire team to understand this mentality, and opponents aren't creating numerous opportunities, which is ideal."
