Jurgen Klopp admits a return to manage Liverpool is theoretically possible.
Jurgen Klopp, who stepped down from Liverpool in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is an option. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-season tenure that included a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait in 30 years, currently occupies roles overseeing worldwide football for Red Bull and providing guidance with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the Premier League last season, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. Speaking candidly, he explained to his interviewer: “I stated I will never coach another team on English soil. So that means should it be the Reds...yes. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“Being 58, which suggests I might decide down the line, it's uncertain. Is a decision required immediately? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, it's not necessary. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
When asked about which situations would have to unfold to draw him back to the touchline, Klopp admitted he isn't eager for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I love what I do right now,” he said. “I don't crave being a coach; I avoid standing in the rain through long matches; I don’t miss going to media briefings multiple times weekly or doing numerous chats a week.
“I don’t miss the dressing room in that context, but sitting in a restaurant alongside the squad having a nice chat, is pleasant. We won a lot of games so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh in my ear to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, acknowledging his role due to the changes that won the league last campaign. They've been defeated four in a row in every contest after a summer spending spree, but he rubbished the suggestion of it representing the start of a downward turn.
“[Liverpool have] a phenomenal forward in Flo[rian] Wirtz, you will all eat your words if spoken against. An outstanding player. Ekitike, superb talent. This is a well-built thoughtfully assembled roster. You don’t have to worry regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a player he signed in 2020, and its impact on Liverpool. Jota lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling recently.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? This isn't just regarding his on-field talent, it’s the guy he was. I struggle to conceive the team environment missing him. I find it difficult to discuss regarding this. A devastating blow for all the boys also. No one within the club would cite it to justify results though it's a fact. Being in that space where his spirit remains. Dealing with that on a personal level is challenging. Impossible.”
