The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song
The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated adventure by the beloved role-playing group, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, Fjord.
Overall, the intro appears stunning. However, I felt that something was missing in the song choice.
This sequence employs "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I believe that fans of the second campaign will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when cast member the performer added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Including singing from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the track was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an installment of adventurous fun.
The Mighty Nein's opening with "the new song" fails to hit the right notes in my opinion. It's an impressive composition, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.
Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some changes and differences from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its intro seems to be among these.
This animated adventure will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and YouTube.
