This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – deriving from a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach fritters and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
